CURRY NOODLES FROM PEARL OF ORIENTAL

PENANG CURRY NOODLES IN ADELAIDE
Dear Families, Friends, Followers and Fans.

Thanks God again for another blessing.

Again I am very fortunate to get one pack of 4 Penang Curry Noodles, at only AUD 4.35, at the almost the very last minute before it close, from  China town in Adelaide. It is so tempting to get it almost instantly.

This is because it is made from my home town, Penang, which is famous for its delicacies in the world. Secondly, I really missed my Malaysian food here after my stay entering into the third week. Immediately I grabbed a pack to be prepared at my stylish, self-contained yet affordable service apartments at AUD 185 per night. To enjoy a special rate of 10% discount, you are encouraged to either book online or trip advisor.

See from the above photo what I have cooked curry noodles from my service apartment the next day and see how the food looks like after being cooked. It is simple and easy to prepare. Just pour the packet of noodles and its ingredients into boiling water. For those who know me well, I rarely do so at my home land. How nice if you could join me here? I am deeply proud to see our products in foreign land and wishing them a great success.

For those who have tried and tasted the above product, kindly share your comment via comment column provided below. I would give a thumb up for it, but don’t take my words for it, try it yourself and post your feedback here.

Thank you in advance.

From now on we are simply sharing our expertise so as empower others to turn their dreams into realities.

BOOK REVIEW - THE BULLETTRAIN ENTREPRENEUR BY PETER ONG

BOOK REVIEW - THE BULLETTRAIN ENTREPRENEUR BY PETER ONG

I was given this book, The Bullettrain Entrepreneur by Peter Ong, because of being one of the 100 interviewees in the book; through the author’s friend, who is also my long-time friend since primary school.

I have read it and felt it deserve a review. It really stimulates my mind to embrace the 4Bs; strengthening Belief, overcoming Barriers, pushing Boundaries and crossing Borders. We live in a fast pace of rapidly changing business world that demands we adapt to continual change from stakeholders, shareholders, customers; employees, regulators and societies. This book will provide you a sane, solid and sound framework in sustaining business growth and profitability – a new competitive landscape for the new business world.

This book is well crafted with powerful proven illustrations familiar to Malaysians and others around the world, inviting us to give what the writer says serious consideration. Peter Ong does a magnificent job in raising our awareness to adopt and adapt more holistic approach in sustaining our business growth and profitability.

I must confess that I too subscribed to the 5 Ps as stated by the author i.e. Purpose, People, Process, Performance and Profit in building the foundation of my business model, overcoming Barriers to gain strength in every aspect, physical, mental and spiritual. Shaping ourselves to be adept and to accept the new environment is the surest way of obtaining success. Keep learning, unlearning and relearning to navigate our personalized path to our pre-set destiny.

What Peter did extraordinary well is using bullet train as a metaphor. He emphasizes the “secret” of success among SMEs and entrepreneurs is actually comes from the alignment, balancing, and integration of 5 master pillars.

Peter Ong illustrates his points with numerous compelling success stories by prominent business entrepreneurs worldwide. By doing so, we are able to see the entire scene through appropriate lens without being side tracked by the complication of the business process.

"The Bullettrain Entrepreneur" is a timely business book which dares to raise issues often neglected by the majority of entrepreneurs. This book is right for new and existing entrepreneurs who aspire to gain the highest, deepest and broadest perspective on how to sustain long term prosperity in today's changing world. It is not meant to persuade or dissuade you; it’s meant to inform and to inspire you in-gaining appropriate and broad perspectives so that you are much better prepared ahead.

I recommend you accept and follow the new solid foundation towards sustainability of business success as reflected in the title of the book.

To know more concisely and precisely, please pickup the book immediately and read it. Cheers and enjoy your reading.

AN EYE OPENER TO ME

Greeting from Melbourne, Victoria, Australia.

When I was on my way to the State Library of Victoria, Melbourne, a day after my son’s convocation, I heard loud melody music coming from the street of Swanston. I quickly investigated what the celebration is all about. Guess what? I was really stunned and shocked to find out the parade of key personnel from RMIT and its students with their graduation regalia, the gown and traditional mortarboard cap, along the street. Of course, all these students will receive well deserved recognition for years of hard work and commitment. Their Graduation Ceremony offers the opportunity for them and their loved ones to celebrate a significant milestone in their lives, and the commencement of their professional careers. No surprises that it attracted big crowds of people who also want to participate in this ceremony with cheering from every corner. The environment was amazingly warm. Of course, I have no hesitation to join in by taking some photos.

Append below are some of the lively and meaningful ceremony which I am really being enlightened. I then decided to post an article with some of the colorful photos I have taken. See the students who are happily inviting me to take their photos as if I am a part of them. It is so amazingly awesome to cheer people for their achievements.

My mind actively ponder how nice if everyone has such a spirit to celebrate others’ success. Then everyone is rest assured of peaceful world and better tomorrow. By doing so, this little act will definitely help nurture a healthy environment for us to establish sound and solid relationship between each other rather than spreading those hatred messages that create chaos in this planet.

As such, I urge you to help me spread and sow this good seed around your circle of friends. Thanks you so much for your kind action. Let us give it a serious consideration- if we don’t care, who will. Just like what Confucius said, “A man who moves mountains starts carrying a little stone.” Stone by stone, all majestic building were erected. To a great mind, nothing is too little to be ignored.

LOOKING BEYOND FINANCIAL STATEMENT - INVESTOR'S PERSPECTIVE

Looking Beyond Financial Statement – Investor’s Perspective
In today’s highly competitive and inflationary but low interest environment, we are not only compelled to invest wisely to get much higher returns than the rate of inflation, but also need to perform exceptionally well to cope with the fast paced economy. Otherwise, financial freedom will not be within our reach.
Stocks investment is a widely used tool, growing in an un-precedented scale and still growing despite it has already formed one of the major investments in any economy. To reap the maximum return, investors are going through much greater lengths to cleverly create and craft strategies, such as "Japanese cloud" formations and "economic surprise" indicators. However, no methodology seems to work all the time.
Value Investing
Contrary to speculation, there is one strategy that absolutely never fails to boost returns, and is often overlooked: value investing. The concept of value investing appeals to those who are relatively conservative and persons who prefer making decisions on analysis of the basic financial strength of a company, coupled with a search for bargain prices of shares. This profound investment strategy requires discipline and patience. It will reward such investors consistently. It is a valuation technique, a technical strategy, or a way to predict funds that will outperform market.
Research, Research, Research
The phrase “past performance can’t guarantee future performance” may sound familiar to some of you. It sounds true even in today’s market. Future is hard to predict. Seeking investments conforming to assumptions or projection about the future without considering the basic facts about a company’s strength or growth potential is unwise. Fundamentals are king. Past performance still can be good indicators that reflect the quality of its management. Financial health is equally important to serve as a rock foundation to assist the company to endure through tough times and grow further.Research, research and research is important to uncover those stocks that trade below its fair price and have great potential. So, financial literacy can’t be viewed as “spare wheel”, but “steering wheel” instead.

BACK TO BASICS
As such, good and sound understanding of finance literacy is critically important in helping the investors to make better informed decisions of their investment. It is not just business acumen. It forms a small fraction of the business yet it is significant, just like the rudder that navigates the planes and ships. To a great mind, nothing is too little. By mastering it, you are able to assess its financial health correctly, comfortably and confidently especially in regards to an adequately capitalized company and its free cash flow.
Free Cash Flow
What is free cash flow? It tells an investor how much actual cash a company is left with after any capital investments. For instance, companies that have high debt/equity ratios, especially in an industry facing tough times, naturally could be one of your first signs that a company is getting over its head in debt.
Do your home work
Read and understand annual reports carefully and assess how Management addresses those critical and concerned areas that significantly affect the companies arising from external changes. What is the quality of assets that had been invested to build or strengthen their competitiveness? What compensation plans have been put in place to retain key and talented personnel? That’s the main reason why we need to look beyond financial statements to weed out those potential growth stocks that are trading fairly lower than their intrinsic value. By looking at the bigger picture of the business such as its competitive position, product or service trends, economic and technological forces that affect its future value, you are able to select those appropriate stocks for investment. What matters most is the quality of management of the company. This is because the management serves as the brain of the company, who will respond to the endless changing environment and navigates the company to the next level of success.
Value investors focus on individual company; review its history of growth, corporate announcements and news inside out, conduct field work, raise material questions during the annual general meeting and extra-ordinary meeting if appropriate. You need to gather those findings, prior to the determination of its fair value that meets your selected criteria. It sounds simple and logical, yet it is not easy. Once the true value of a company has been determined, the value investors will look for a buying opportunity. This means they will buy stock in a target company only if they can execute an order below its pre-determined fair price.
The question arises whether such bargain arises in the market? Such stocks are in existence even in the efficient market when their potentials are unnoticed. You need insightful information to make accurate assessment of its fair value.
WHY LOOK BEYOND FINANCIAL STATEMENTS
Many investors claimed that they are long-term investors, but how many of us truly are? How many of us are really unshaken by a market nosedive or a threatening global event?  The stock market is a psychological conundrum, and we're all vulnerable to its clever head-fakes. Perhaps we need to learn and master more of our mind faculties to overcome such fear before we invest. Short-term market trends are extremely chaotic and choppy. The good news is that long-term trends rely on the fundamentals.
We should cultivate discipline to be a better skilled investor. We should act contradictory to the other investors by accumulating those bargains stocks after downside panics, hold on while the market climbs and rebalance back to our asset allocation when everyone is bragging about their gains.
You need the “know how” to stay ahead. Have you ever wondered what intelligent approach or sound reasoning you possess before you buy that particular stock? Or is your decision just purely based on a simplistic indicator. For example, a company is about to secure a new project or is going to benefit from new legislation.  However, under the value investing approach, you need to have control when you apply the rules. You will seek the series of answers of the following profound questions before you act:-
a. is the stock currently traded under its fair value?
b. what criteria determine this conclusion about valuation?
c. is the company dominant in its industry?
d. what is its recent price history?
In the long term, stock prices tend to move in line with the company earnings. It’s really that simple. Look at its past earnings trends and determine whether those trends will likely to continue into the future. Value investors need to track earnings;and not on many lists of “stock to buy.” The rationale is that it is most probably undervalued and the cyclical nature of this sector will come around again.

Excellent reputations for quality of management, products and competition are key ingredients for the value investment. A value company is most likely to have a strong domination in the industry. Always remember bargains show up in the market all the time because of the short-term irrationality of buyers and sellers.

Even during the market downturns, value stocks tend to perform better than average, either declining less than average or even rising. In 2008, one of the worst years on US record, McDonalds rose in value while nearly all other stocks prices decline.

This does not mean that value stocks are exempt from price declines. However, well selected value stocks do tend to outperform the market as a whole over the long term. A second source of returns on a portfolio, apart from price appreciation, is dividend income. This may not be for those who desire fast growing stocks. Value investors can make the most of dividend yield by reinvesting dividends in purchase of additional shares rather than taking payments in cash. The value investor is most probably more conservative and concerned with volatility than growth investors.

Hence, it is safe to conclude that to invest intelligently and wisely, one needs to look beyond the financial statements in order to make better informed investment decisions. With the financial mastery, coupled with insight knowledge and appropriate mindset, the chance of succeeding in investment is definitely relatively much higher. To save in the bank and earning its fixed deposit’s rate is definitely a loser. This is because the interest rate is much lower than the real inflation’s rate.

Investment Strategy

As such, every investor needs to develop a series of strategies for investing. An investment strategy is a set of rules, behaviors or procedures, designed to guide an investor's selection of an investment portfolio.  Usually the strategy will be designed around the investor's risk-return tradeoff: some investors will prefer to maximize expected returns by investing in risky assets, others will prefer to minimize risk, but most will select a strategy somewhere in between.

At the end of day, every investor wants to make a profit. But without an investment strategy, how do you know which stocks to buy and which are too risky? How long will you hold those stocks?

To ensure that you achieve your goals with much certainty and consistency, looking beyond financial statements is unavoidable. Always begin with a strategy and vision, end with model and analytical insights. Stay focus on the big picture without losing the details by measuring, monitoring, managing them effectively and closely in line with the saying, “you can’t manage what you don’t measure.”

Uncovering the realities that lie behind the data is what business analytics is all about. You need to use your mind faculty to recognize those competitive edges, usually hidden to the casual observer, in those companies you have invested in.

CONCLUSION

In summary, by mastering the investment skills, you are able to handle your own investment with full accountability and commitment. “The whole science is a refinement of everyday thinking.” Albert Einstein. This is because a man’s world is a projection of his mind. When your mind is weak, you see problem.  When your mind is balance, you see the challenge. When your mind is strong, you see the opportunity. So this sound, sane and solid principle also applies to investment as well.

CABIN CREW AND NOT KEVIN KHOO

Recently I received the above joke from my former secondary school's classmate. I had not only a good laugh; but it reminded me of my most memorable aircraft delivery trip to New Zealand which purely comprised of our staff and without Kevin Khoo.

During this journey, I was not only busy paying all the cash bills; but also have to make declaration of cash holding of about USD 40,000.  I was holding the cash at the Brisbane Airport not long after our former Selangor MB's incident. Many people thought I was the owner of the plane as our plane just painted all white without any logo. The question is “Did I look like one?” Haha. Give me your feedback?

The sale of the aircraft was one of the things which helped us turn around the company. It made me fulfill one of my dreams i.e. to be turn around manager. This also caused me to over stay in this company with wealthy experiences. You may read more details at http://liftyouup.blogspot.com/2010/05/hi-friends-further-to-several-articles.html

Another more interesting thing to note is that I too had a chance to sit at jump seat (a seat just behind pilots’ seat) in the cockpit to have a real experience of the plane taking off and landing. Make a guess which is more challenging task to the pilot, taking off or landing? Without my pilot’s license, that is the best seat I can opt.

You see I was not only a passenger but also the cabin crew but not Kevin Khoo. Haha!

Happy reading.

UNFORGETTABLE INCIDENT - THE SUDDEN DEATH OF MY FATHER

Dear families, Friends, Fans and Followers.

After several breakthrough achievements, my courage has accelerated and dare to talk more about things that I rarely discuss before. I am more open to express my feeling publicly in contrast with my introvert nature. I must confess that I have been transformed after all these years of training and readings I have done.

Pardon me if you feel offended of this sort of post, as some of you may feel that it has negative impacts.

One event, I will never forget is the time when I was about to have my bath in the evening in the year 2002 and received a crying call from my sister and was shocked to know my dad had passed away. This news just come out of the blues, for no reason, he was just about 67 (No one knows his actual age due to its underlying story). This came less than a year after my grandmother, from my mother side passed away at 103. My uncle, my mother's younger brother, also passed away at age of 50 plus, a few months later than my father. He was sent to the private hospital and declared dead by the hospital.

Below is the obituary in the newspaper which I have kept for the last twelve years.

We were caught by surprise and the blow was too great. Luckily, NV Multi, the funeral company came to our rescue to be our ‘one stop arranger’ to ferry my late father from the private hospital at Subang to his last stop in Penang 12 years ago. With this, I write to record our sincere thanks to this esteemed company for providing such a resounding solution at the time of need. This incident has impacted me lots.

Just imagine, if not for the service provider, we were totally at a loss at that critical time. I must say that much more hassle and chaos is expected. None of us have such experience in handling all these sort of things and our nature of not expecting such calamity to happen so suddenly.

We must admit that we were stressed out unnecessarily due to lack of experience and lots of protocols to be followed, especially from my mother.

Through this horribly sad and unforgettable event, we do encourage people to learn from this lesson. Pre-plan your last stop of your life to prevent hassle and chaos to the family member left behind, especially for those who chose to follow the traditional protocols.

I do acknowledge the sensitivity of this sort of thing, but it is better to confront and conquer it once at all. By not discussing this matter, you will not be exempted from death. This is part of life.

This event became fresh again after the lapse of 12 years. I feel an obligation to share my experience with others and at the same time hope you too can learn the lesson from it.

Be ready to embrace unlimited belief and set yourself free from all the bondages, false belief and fears that hold you back. Keep venturing into something new so as to be comfortable in the “uncomfortable zone” or “unknown area” or “uncertainty”.

One last thing I have learned is that we are now living in the new world with un-precedented fast pace of changes ever recorded. To enable us to strike we have to adopt and adapt to the new environment.

We have come to the stage that “It Is Not the Strongest of the Species that Survives But the Most Adaptable.” Charles Darwin.

BOOK REVIEW: BECOMING GENERATION FLUX

Dear Families, Friends, Followers and Fans,

I was given the honor to review this eye opening new perspective on Becoming Generation Flux by Miles Anthony Smith.

We live in times of uncertainties, fear, doubts and challenges, learning and adapting to the environment at an unprecedented fast pace. It is truly a new experience. This book will provide you a new perspective and prepare you to obtain more technical or other skills that are hard to automate if you want to a successful career.

I received this book in exchange for my independent review only.

This book is well crafted with powerful facts supported by statistics on the contemporary social issues encountered by people not only in the United States but also the rest of the world. It invites us to give these critical issues due consideration. On this notes, Miles Anthony Smith does a magnificent and marvelous job for raising, nurturing and nourishing us to embrace Generation Flux so as to avoid unnecessary stress.

I too subscribe to similar formulae given by the author without realising it i.e. seize the day in areas we control, cede stress in areas we have no control of, and have found it very fruitful. Relax and have fun to gain strength in every aspect, be it physical, mental and spiritual. Shaping ourselves to be adept and to accept the new environment is the surest way of obtaining success. Keep learning, unlearning and relearning to navigate our career path.

Miles Anthony Smith is a positive yet realistic author, illustrating compellingly and convincingly the numerous new trends and social issue caused by income inequality imbalances. In his doing so, we are able to see the entire scene through appropriate lens without being side tracked by chaotic career complications.

"Becoming Generation Flux" is a timely book which dares to raise issues that people normally avoid discussing publicly. However, as for those who aspire to gain the highest, deepest and broadest perspective on how to live in the new world, then this book is right for you. It is not meant to persuade or dissuade you. It is meant to inform, instill and inspire you in gaining appropriate and broad perspectives so that you are much better prepared to take the ride on the waves ahead.

The above book basically comprises of four interesting and inspiring thoughts  which will invite the readers to think deeply about the clouds surrounding today’s world and in which many people are caught in the dark with much of frustration and discouragement facing this generation, well reflected in the title of the book.

The author systematically paints the real scene with facts and figures before he shapes his convincing and compelling arguments. He then crafts the simple and certain approach in Part 1 prior to his sensible urge to stop education madness, a phenomenon in today’s world. He raises several provoking thoughts as to why he said so. He makes an excellent analysis of how education, the workplace and career management are becoming much more fluid and unpredictable. The changing career landscape provokes the readers to take a look at their career transition and what it takes to successfully navigate through their career journey. .

Miles Anthony Smith ultimately offers the sensible yet feasible solution of embracing becoming General Flux before he closes with the bright hopes, relaxing and having fun while charting a new path for your dream job. I adopted similar formula when I was at my cross roads prior to reading his book and I must confess that it is truly workable.

It goes without saying, that one should accept and follow the new career flow as reflected in the title of the book. With this, I hope I have not disclosed too much of this significant book.

To have a much deeper understanding and to apply what he recommends, do pick up a copy of the book as soon as you can and read it. Please don’t take my word for it. Apply the wisdom and know-how in the book wherever applicable for your own sake. Using this appropriate lens of viewing things around you, I can assure you that it will be easier for you to adopt this habit with ease. Cheers and enjoy your reading.

SOUND LEADERSHIP

SOUND LEADERSHIP
I write to acknowledge my sincere appreciation to the good foresight leaders, that is both Chinese educationist Dr Kua Kia Soong and Dr Shafie Salleh for taking the brave and bold decisions to enable lots of Malaysian children to take alternative route to pursue their education in view of foreseeable importance of Mandarin in the near future.
Their bold and brave actions have received overwhelming supports from many Malaysians from all strata of Society. Many had even supported the clause with generous donations. This well illustrates the point that success is obtained by being focus and taking positive actions which may involve lots of sacrifices, hard work and commitment.
Below are the extracts from Wikipedia on Unified Examination Certificate and of the above two great foresight leaders for your reading pleasure.

Unified Examination Certificate (UEC)
The Unified Examination Certificate (UEC) is a standardized test for Chinese independent high school students organized by the UCSCAM since 1975. The UEC is available in three levels: Junior Middle (UEC-JML), Vocational (UEC-V), and Senior Middle (UEC-SML). Examinations for non-language subjects in the UEC-JML (except in Sabah) and UEC-V are in Chinese. In Sabah, UEC-JML science and mathematics are available in Chinese and English. The UEC-SML has examinations for mathematics, sciences (biology, chemistry and physics), book keeping, accounting, and commerce available in Chinese and English, while other non-language subjects are only available in Chinese.
The UEC-SML is recognized as a qualification for entrance into many tertiary educational institutions around the world, including the United Kingdom, the United States, Taiwan, Hong Kong, China, Singapore, Australia, Canada and many others. It is not recognized by the government of Malaysia for entry into public universities, but most private colleges recognize it.
Because the UEC is not recognized by the Malaysian government, some Chinese independent high schools opt to teach the national secondary school curriculum (in Malay) alongside the independent school curriculum (in Chinese) and require students to sit for the government standardized tests (PMR, SPM or even STPM) as private school candidates, providing the students an opportunity to obtain government-recognized certificates.
Chinese educationalist Dr Kua Kia Soong mentions the introduction of the UEC in his book Protean Saga: The Chinese Schools of Malaysia. According to the book, the introduction of the UEC led to Dr Mahathir Mohamad, the then Minister of Education and later the Prime Minister of Malaysia, summoning the Chinese educationalists to parliament. To quote the book, "The latter (Mahathir) did not mince his words but told the Dong Jiao Zong leaders that UEC had better not be held or else ... He did not ask for any response and dismissed the Chinese educationalists with a curt ... 'that is all'."
In May 2004 the National Accreditation Board (LAN) required students entering local private colleges using any qualification other than the SPM to pass the SPM Malay paper. This drew protests and then the Minister of Higher Education Dr Shafie Salleh exempted UEC students from this requirement.

Hope this event serves excellent lessons to be learned. Fortunately, we have these great leaders who dare to stand out in times of crisis for the benefits of next generations. Well done and keep it up.
