ANOTHER BOLD MOVE BY CHINESE GROUPS - BAN SHARK HUNTING

Dear Readers,

SAY "NO" TO SHARK FIN SOUP

I am deeply delighted to read the news, reported by P. Aruna on the Star dated May 9, 2011, entitled Chinese groups back plan to ban shark hunting. This good news should not only be welcome, but appreciation also be given to the relevant bodies which have made all the necessary initiatives to gain the support of the ban on shark hunting.

According to the report, Chinese groups have come out in support of the proposed ban on shark hunting by the Sabah Government. Such a call puts this bold proposal near to reality, if people are taking serious action on this. It was also reported that the Malaysia Chinese Food Consumer Association vice-chairman, Mr. Wilson Chia, claimed that his association fully supports the ban.

He added that the association also discouraged the community from choosing shark fin soup as the main course during functions. His call is loud and clear and trust more people will respond positively to his call so as to preserve the ecology. Likewise, I always said and do not mind to repeat that if we don't care, then who else will.

I am glad to see that this move was not just stops there. The Federation of Chinese Associations Malaysia deputy-general Dr Chin Yew Sin also joined in to welcome this ban and urged the Chinese community to support the move.

In this positive note, Malaysia Nature Society urged the state government not only just to ban shark hunting, but also the consumption of shark fin soup as well. Trust Sabah will take the lead to show example for other states to follow suit.

We, at http://liftyouup.blogspot.com, of course like to join in and play our part to support this move. We are also glad that the Malaysia Animal Welfare Society president En Shenaaz Khan wanted such a similar move to be extended to other wildlife as well. We believe that this has come to a crucial stage where we need to act urgently to protect these nearly extinguished animals.

To make this move more effective, it is wise to make more people aware on how shark's fins were obtained. Sad to say that it is a common practice for fishermen to cut off the shark's fins before throwing back the animal back into the sea. We strongly believe that by making the public aware, more restaurant owners will become more environmentally conscious and take the delicacy off their menu. Couple with the pressure from the public not to eat if they were to be served. By this joint cooperation of all parties, nothing can not be achieved.

As such, we trust you will support this bold move and help us to spread this news to your circle of friends. Thank for your kind action to show your care. Better still, if we can do it globally.

We together make things possible.

Please click "like" at FB to show your support and do us a favour by spreading the news to your contacts. Thank you in advance.
