GREEN PROJECT AT BANDAR UTAMA

In line with the Green Issue, we are pleased to inform you that the Bandar Utama Shopping Centre has embarked in a memorable event, called BOOKCROSS@1U, since January 1, 2010 and projected to last until December 2010.

As such, you are encouraged to bring your books to read and exchange at 1 Utama's Official BookCrossing Zone - BookCross@1U located at Ground Floor Highstreet.

BookCrossing is earth-friendly, and gives you a way to share your books and clear your shelves.Through this unique method of recycling books, BookCrossers give life to books.

Furnished with cosy living room furniture with bookcase, lamps and sofas, BookCross@1U is designed as a convenient BookCrossing venue for booklovers whilst doubling as a special reading lounge for shoppers.

More over, 50 books are sponsored by MPH Bookstores every month and released at BookCross@1U. Regular book club meetings, author readings and BookCrossing sessions will also be organised at BookCross@1U by MPH.

With the initial group of books released by MPH, hundreds more books will be contributed by 1 Utama to provide an ongoing platform for shoppers to read.

1 Utama is the first mall in Asia to launch a BookCrossing Zone, so be sure to visit us often! Your presence is greatly appreciated so as to encourage more  such projects to address the Green Issue.

You may contact the Customer Service Centre at 03-7710 8118 from 10:00am to 10:00pm daily for more details on BookCross@1U.

Another initiative you should not missed is the roof-top garden which occupies almost 30,000 sq ft and houses over  500 species of rare tropical and temperate plants - - making it possibly the largest roof-top garden in Southeast Asia in terms of variety and number of plants.

The garden is the brain-child of 1Utama director Datuk Teo Chiang Kok who had been concerned about preserving the environment in the face of mushrooming development. As such, we express our heartfelt thanks to Datuk Teo.

The roof-top garden coincides with another green initiative – an actual rainforest enclave cultivated within 1 Utama called the Rainforest.

Both projects were led by distinguished botanist and researcher Dr Francis Ng, who recently was awarded the prestigious David Fairchild Medal 2009 (Plant Exploration) presented by the National Tropical Botanical Garden of the United States.  We are truly proud of both of them who have made the Nation proud of their remarkable contributions.

Another area we, Lift You Up, can think of is to plant more green at the various play fields so as to beautify the areas further. No doubts that the play field have been equipped with all sorts of facilities, but also regularly maintained. Again, this give further assurance to our investment in form of houses we are living in.

Hi, thanks for the info.
It may save the earth but may not be in line with our Govt's tax relief for encouraging reading habits.
Hmmm, now you got me thinking which is more important!

Thanks for dropping by and your valuable feedback.

We respect your view, but we do not believe that saving the earth will have adverse impact on your reading habit. In our humble opinion, we strongly opined that it reaffirms each other activities. You need to read to enhance your knowledge so as to save the earth more effectively and meaningful.

Appreciate if you could give our two cent thought a due consideration.

Thank you and look forward to hearing from you,
