SIDE EFFECTS OF CHEMOTHERAPY DEVELPOED

What I feared most has materialised. I now experiencing vomiting, throwing out most of the food I had taken, nausea as well as numbness in my hands. I know with God's grace, power and strength, He will lead me by his hand to overcome these adversities and I will emerge victorious and rid my body of the cancer cells.

What is puzzling me is that though my tumour marker is insignificant at this moment why then am I still have to undergo 8 courses of chemotherapy? Is it to prevent those cancer cells that are still in the body to grow and spread? I am very confused and I sometimes wish that the doctors will be more patient and understanding to explain their actions.

Wouldn't it be better if an alternative method such as nutrition, exercise, spiritual guidance and other less potent medicine to treat or to boost the immune system?

The side effects have worsened since yesterday and the vomiting, nausea n numbness have intensified which led me to wonder whether it is going to cause more harm in the long run.

I will continue to pray for God's guidance and wisdom for He is the creator and He knows best what is good for me.

THE AMAZING EXPERIENCE OF MY FIRST CHEMOTHERAPHY

The morning of 19 sept dawned bright and clear but I was filled with trepidation for I was going for the first course of my chemotherapy. I quickly brushed aside my fear for I know my Lord will be beside me, giving me strength to overcome this adversity.

I checked into the UMSC hospital at the appointed time for the potent drugs to be administered intravenously.

The treatment started with a base line blood test for my kidney, liver and a tumour marker. The marker turned out to be insignificant, thank God, demonstrating that my surgeon had done a good job by removing all tumours and lymph nodes that can be seen by the naked eyes.

Since the lower bottom of my stomach was removed, now I have to be injected with Vitamin B12 and the frequency of injection every three months. Dr Ho is the only one who highlighted this point to me and I let him to do the job. If not it may cause damage to the nerves.

I hope what I learned/ picked up those key issue from my journey will be helpful for others. Sharing is caring

Since I did not make a pre-booking for a bed, I was offered a reclining chair to receive my treatment.

I am glad that everything went smoothly and steadily overcoming my initial fear. The entire process was lengthy and time-consuming and it took almost the whole day. Fortunately, I did not suffer much side effects except for some numbness.

After the Chemotheraphy, I experienced  some numbness and thus I was advised to drink hot water at all times to ease it.

Therefore I would say that overall it was an amazing experience for me. 

Please pray for me that no side effects will arise.May God's grace strengthen every muscles and good cells to battle against any remaining cancer cells in my body.

I would like to thank everyone  who has prayed  and supported me throughout my first treatment. Please  pray that God will continue to shower his blessings on me so that all the bad cells will be removed and I will be cancer free.

To date I have incurred  and settled my medical bills accrued due to my cancer amounting  to about rm 40k on a paid and claim basis. However, my insurance company, AIA has yet to reimburse me despite that it has been more than a month since i had submitted my claimed.

Hoping and praying that AIA will expedite my claim as soon as possible in line with the company's slogan of providing you with an umbrella when it rains.. Till yesterday i have submitted 4 claims, I hope and trust that they will walk their talk by showing understanding and care to their valued customers.

Be focus on your message u want to convey. Remember THIS IS YOUR BOOK! You are not adopting "reporter" method. Go back to your structure like who's your target readers. You are documenting your journey so let it be. Something asking around too much will pull you out of course.

MY LUNG CT SCAN

Won another battle yesterday as I managed to do my blood test and CT scan of my lung as scheduled.

Before the scan, I had to take 30 tablets of Nisolon as I am allergic to pons ton, aspirin, blufen, and Voltaren.

On Sept 19 at 8;30am  I will undergo my first chemotherapy treatment at the ward at UMSC if everything goes smoothly.

Thank Lord again for showering your grace comfort and mercy on me. Please continue to pray for me for God's wisdom, strength, and guidance.

MY DECISION OF MY CANCER TREATMENT

Dear friends, Followers, and Fans 

After weighing all the options, finally I have decided to have my chemotherapy done at UMSC.

Preliminary procedures I have to undergo before my chemotherapy is to repeat a blood test and CT scan of my lung. I pray that God will bless me n my CT scan results will be negative.

 

Thank Lord for helping me to make this decision and may You continually bless me as I undergo the chemotherapy. Praise the Lord and please continue to give me wisdom and guidance.

CONSULTATION WITH DR HO

My consultation with Dr. Ho today is both logistically as well as financially better for me for the same kind of treatment.  This means that I can save both time n money.

I would be undergoing the same course of chemotherapy over the same period of time ie 6 months. 

According to the dr my chances of survival, if I opt for chemotherapy, I will be increased from 30% to slightly over 50%. (30 %+ 1/3 * 70) 

He also recommended that I do a CT Scan of my lungs before proceeding with the chemotherapy as it is more accurate than the X ray. 

Also before Chemotherapy, I need to take some medications to prevent damage to my other organs.

After consulting a few oncologists, I must say that I am still confused and I pray to God to give me the guidance to choose wisely and pray that I will recover as soon as possible.

THIRD WEEK AFTER MY SURGERY

This is the third week after my first major surgery. Thank God that my recovery pace is at a very satisfactory level. I am getting used to eating less but more frequency as a result removing 60% my stomach.

After several consultations with a few oncologists and conversations with some ex cancer patients, I am now more aware of the options available post surgery. From my discussions with my surgeon and oncologist, I am told that my survival rate would be increased from 70% to 80% or 85%. There are a few options for chemotherapy for me  such as using Xylox or Forfolk but the oncologist I consulted with recommended that I used Xylox. It will be administered both by injection and orally.

I understand that there is another alternative from an elderly cancer patient who used TS1- a Japanese drug taken orally for one year.

To be honest, I really am in a dilemma not knowing which option to go for.

Alternatively, another option is through the intervention approach which can be done through a small tube and inserted through the leg which can be done in one of the cancer hospitals in China. I am not sure if this approach can be done locally

However, if I do not opt for chemotherapy, then I am advised to follow up with my surgeon and oncologist regularly on a 3 to 6 months interval.they will perform Endoscopy, CT scan and MR from time to time. 

It is a not an easy decision for me to choose a suitable n appropriate option as well as an oncologist who I am comfortable with.

I rather pray to Mighty Living God for guidance and let his wisdom and care lead me to a wise decision. 

ANOTHER SIGNIFICANT MILESTONE FOR ME - A POST SURGERY REVIEW AND A CONSULTATION

28 August 2017 marks another significant milestone for me- a post surgery review  and a consultation with the oncologist.

Dato Dr. Lee explained to me that out of the 14 lymph nodes that he observed 3 were found to be cancerous. He recommended that I go for one course 

After a long wait at t oncology center, I finally got to meet Dr. Khong. She explained that I would be fit enough to undergo Chemotherapy in two weeks time. She went on to explain the side effects and advised me to seek treatment immediately should I be unwell after the Chemotherapy.

Possible side effects:

1. Darkening of the skin

2. Slight hair loss

3. Blackening of the fingers and toes

4. Numbness of the hands and feets

5. Allergic reaction

6. Fever ( above 38 degrees )

7. Vomiting 

8. Low immunity 

9. Infection 

10. Dryness of the skin

I am indeed grateful to be attended to by two skillful and experienced doctors

MY FIRST & MAJOR SURGERY

Dear Friends, Followers and Fans.

On the 14th of August 2017,  I had my first major surgery around 1:30 pm. Dato Dr Lee SH (surgeon) had to act aggressively to remove 60% of my stomach, lots of lymph nodes, of sizes up to 1.5 cm and a little part of my pancreas. To ease my digestion, I have to chew my food properly and savour my drinks. I may be the first for the meal and the last one to finish it. 

The entire operation took nearly 4 hours.  The operation was a success one, with smooth and professionally handled with tense care by the surgeon, who was removing lymph nodes around areas with his naked eye. 

I was discharged after a week of sound resting in the hospital, under the good care of the hospital staff. I was really satisfied with the services rendered from the KL Gleneagles Hospital. 

The surgeon strongly suggested that I go for at least 6 -8 times chemotherapy, which I was hesitated to do so.

He considered me as a Stage 3 cancer patient. Dr. Rachael Khong was under his recommendation for follow up treatment. I have granted an appointment to discuss with them on Next Monday for the details of my above follow up treatment.

Clarity in mind is crucial important in our lives if we truly desire to accomplish what our lives can offer.
