ARE WE TRULY BE BETTER OFF

Love is what we were born with.
Fear is what we learned here.

Miracles occur naturally as expressions of love.
The real miracle is the love that inspires them.
In this sense everything that comes from love is a miracle.

INTERVIEW WITH BARBARA A DERKSEN

About The Author

Q and A Session

James: When did you begin to write?

Barbara: Writing began one restless night about 25 years ago, when I sat down to see if I could still type. My husband’s TSR80 from Radio Shack just gathered dust in my dining room or was used for the kids to play games. The general consensus in those days was that personal computers would never sell. So much for general consensus. Anyway, I wrote a story that brought tears to the eyes of anyone who read it. It seemed my writing had improved since high school. So the journey began.

James: What made you think of publishing a book to share with others?

Barbara: By the time I decided to write a whole book, I’d been working as a journalist for about 4 years. People, I discovered, loved to read for the most part but some of the stuff out there did not do anything to change their life. As a Christian, the Lord placed on my heart a desire to see everyone I met join me in heaven one day. So I figured a great avenue to share my faith was writing. I write to invite, inspire, and encourage so all my books, for the most part, follow that premise.

James: So far what is your worst criticisms/attacks and how did you overcome them?

Barbara: I don’t market my books as Christian. I feel that causes people to resist exploring the content and I want people to enjoy what I write but to also read the gospel in them. If they never pick them up, they’ll miss out. So the one criticism I usually get is that I write too much about God and Jesus. That’s a person, I feel, who needs the Lord so I pray for them a lot. Otherwise, both Christian readers and non-Christians enjoy the story line of the series, look for the next one, and look forward to the next series. MY devotions, of course, are openly Christian. People claim they meet God in them and that’s as it should be, since He commissioned me to write them.

James: Where do you get the courage to do so?

Barbara: I rely heavily on the Holy Spirit for guidance and support. If God wants another book, then He has a purpose for it. All I have to do is the best I can and He’ll see that it gets into the hands of the people who need to read it. That doesn’t mean I don’t have to face my demons when it comes to marketing. I am an introvert and very comfortable sitting at home, letting my imagination take me to other places. Standing in a bookstore, smiling, inviting people to take a chance on my work, is not my comfort zone. But God asks us to step out of the boat and trust Him.

James: Can you enlighten us a little more about your books?

Barbara: I write primarily three genres, mystery, devotions, and children’s stories, although I have a couple of books that don’t fit those parameters. The mysteries have a large following internationally. Vanished (http://amzn.to/LO3CPf) is the first in the series that introduces my readers to two people who join forces to find a missing couple, their best friends. They encounter all sorts of criminal activity as they explore their relationship with each other. Presumed Dead (http://amzn.to/KYBojS) and Fear Not (http://amzn.to/L676xh), find them again looking for someone who’s missing, first in a biker gang, and then on a cruise ship. Drugs play a prominent part in Presumed Dead as well as the biker culture while the black market opens Brian and Andrea’s eyes in Fear Not. The newest book, Silence (http://amzn.to/LO4fbm), just released in May, explores the ominous world of sex traffic and white slavery. In Silence, Brian and Andrea get separated when she is kidnapped. My readers have built a rapport with the characters in all these books, even the secondary characters.

I wrote my first devotional after an argument with the Lord. I did the Moses thing, expressing to Him why I wasn’t qualified to write devotionals but His persistence has now caused five books to be written, all that people have expressed have touched them in one way or another. They target bikers, with titles such as Straight Pipes, Two-Up, Chrome, Chaps, and Road Trip, although the words inside the covers apply to everyone. In the bookstore at my website (http://www.barbaraannderksen.com), I have sample chapters for each book and details about the content.

My children’s stories are the result of grandchildren. Shih-Tzu Puppy Adventures (http://amzn.to/KMOOio) is a six story compilation surrounding a puppy family that loses its mother the day after they’re born. Children with a third grade reading level can read the stories for themselves but even two-year-olds sit quietly while parents or grandparents read to them. They love all the pictures and are intrigued with the antics of the puppies. Scruffles Finds a Home (http://amzn.to/JwLvcc) is the story of a field mouse who comes in out of the cold to find a large man in a red suit in residence. The man chases her all over the house, until… Well you’ll have to get the story to find out what happens.

As I said earlier, I have two other books that don’t fit into any of the above genres. Second to None (http://amzn.to/LKE3et) is a collection of stories written by combat veterans of the Korean Conflict. These are their stories, but edited by me for the book. Dance With a Broom (http://amzn.to/LKF06x) is a household management guide for busy parents, a great gift book for young families. It has a time management plan that really works. It has parenting tips, and ideas for building a strong marriage. My husband and I have been married, happily, for 43 years. The ideas work.

James: Is there anything else you would like your readers to pay special attention in regards to your books, which you have not mentioned above?

Barbara: People enjoy the books. They are seldom disappointed when they purchase one and are usually surprised that they have not heard of me before. My husband and I ride with Christian Motorcyclists Association and travel about 25,000 miles every summer ministering to bikers, veterans, and church goers. He’s an international recording artist (HC Derksen at http://www.cdbaby.com/all/hcderksen) with several songs that he’s written himself, all to encourage others in their walk with the Lord. The books and music work hand in hand in our ministry as people read for encouragement and for inspiration while listening to one of my husband’s CDs.

James: When do you plan to publish your next book?

Barbara: My deadline is spring of 2013 for the first in the new series surrounding stories about missing children, another devotional, and a new children’s story. I am doing research for the new mystery now and already have a story line rolling around in my head for the kid’s book.

James : How many volume of books for the above series?

Barbara:   I’ve plans for four in the series but one never knows. There may be more stories that need to be told.

James: Tell us your guided principle that governs your life? How you cultivate these values?

Barbara: I follow the teachings of Jesus Christ as closely as I can. I fail many times but, Christ knows me well, so is patient. He teaches us to love others, above all else, and to be non-judgmental. He is the judge, not me. I try to serve the needs of others when I write, giving them an interesting read, but also one that builds into their lives.

James: Any other advice which you’d like to share with our readers?

Barbara: I think we need to be the best possible writer we can be. That doesn’t always mean a best seller but at least one that adds something to the lives of the people with whom we come in contact. If one of my books hits that “best seller” status, I won’t turn my back on it, but my goal is changing the world…one heart at a time. So if I succeed in that, I will have achieved what God has placed on my heart.

MIGRAINE HEADACHES TREATMENT

MIGRAINE HEADACHES TREATMENT

Almost everyone gets headaches, but not migraine. The latter is different. By definition, the medical profession regards it as a recurrent headache that has additional symptoms. The pain arising from migraine is often throbbing and on one or both sides of the head. People with migraines often feel dizzy or sick to their stomachs. They may be sensitive to light, noise, or smells. As such, it can be disabling and naturally the victim is advised not to involve in any physical activity until they feel better.

Not all scientists agree about what causes migraines. But majority of them believe that it is caused by narrowing and expanding of blood vessels in brain. Therefore, it is worthy for you to note that different things or activities can trigger migraines in people who have them.

Append below please find some common migraine triggers:-

stress
menstruation

skipping meals

too much caffeine

sudden changes in sleep patterns

smoking

weather changes

I am sure that you will agree with me that prevention is always better than cure. To do so, you need to learn and detect what trigger your migraines precisely. Thereafter, you need to try to avoid these triggers as much as you could possibly. Right?

Since each and every case is unique in nature, therefore I opted not to touch on the common treatments normally prescribed by the medical doctors, who are more qualified than I do.

If you have tried all the recommended approaches, and you still do not get the desired result. Then, who does not agree with me that you should find other different means to treat it, if you desired for a different result. One thing we all are agreed that you cannot obtain different result by doing the same thing again and again. Are you all following me so far? Naturally, I strongly suggest that you too try out other non-conventional means, if the risk involved is fairly low. Never forget that if you don't give it a try, you will never know its result.

Be mindful that there are so many routes to success. Similarly it applies to any treatment. One thing for sure is that if you give up , you will never succeed. By trying it out, it does not guarantee that you will succeed. But at least it gives you a chance to succeed. So, do treatment.

Here, I must admit that by having positive thoughts, it proves me to be very fruitful. Because it gives me good feeling and emotion that enable me to stay in control no matter what. By attaining that sort of peace, I will not only be much more healthier than before, but also able to see things at the right perspective. As a result, things surrounding me will eventually turn out to be much more colourful and beautiful than before. With this, I am able to attract the extra good energy from the universal. Hence, keep me in a much better form. Please it a try and let us know your feedback.

Lastly, another powerful mean which works very well for me is through prayers. This is because I am a firm believer of prayers and this also has been scientific proven by some researchers lately. You too are assured to gain far more than you could imagine yet you will not have any adverse effect. Naturally, it makes lots of sense for you to try it out by conditioning your mind with all these healthy stuff. Be mindful that our minds function like our muscles, it need to exercise to strengthen it. That's all I can say and I leave to your intelligence to figure out.

May I sum up my discussion with a prayer? I pray that the Lord will heal you and that He will give you peace. He knows that you are in a battle and need to know others are praying for you. Of course, God has heard your prayers today. If you have searched and found this article, I want you to know it was not a mistake you found it today. God cares about you…yes He does. God bless you brother or sister.

ABOUT THE INTERVIEW

Q&A portion:
James: When did you begin to write?
Cheryl : It feels like I’ve always written. I began to create my own stories in school, where my teachers encouraged me to pursue fiction. I was 16 when I wrote my first novel, but it was stolen from my locker. That was way before computers and flash drives, and all I had was a typed manuscript and no copy. I wrote my next novel about 5 years later. It remains unpublished, but I may resurrect it one day.

James: What made you think of publishing a book to share with others?
Cheryl: When teachers told me I had talent in writing, I realized how much I enjoyed creating characters and worlds. But it was a difficult career to pursue in my 20s so I put it on the backburner, though I did try for many years to find a publisher and an agent. In 2001, a story became ingrained in my mind, building quickly and strongly to the point that I could envision the characters. I knew the beginning, middle and end. But I was afraid to write it because I thought it would never be published. I let the idea simmer for 2 years until one day I told a friend the story. She had tears in her eyes when I was done. Then she gave me the best advice I’d ever been given: “Don’t worry if it gets published. Write it for you. Write it because you have to.” So I did. That was Whale Song. I wrote it in 3 months. It was published in the summer of 2003 and is an international bestselling novel with worldwide appeal. And it has literally changed people’s lives.
James: So far what is your worst criticisms/attacks and how did you overcome them?

Cheryl: Constructive criticism is something I’ve always welcomed. Unfortunately some people leave out the “constructive” part and feel it’s their “job” to rip apart books. Some of the toughest criticisms have come from the odd reader who finds it necessary to slam a writer, even if they didn’t finish reading the book. I had a reviewer do this after reading only a couple of chapters of one of my books. When he slammed it afterward, I was amazed to find other readers jumping in to defend me. They had valid points. How can you honestly review a work if you didn’t read it? If he’d only said it was unreadable or that he didn’t like it enough to finish it, that would have been fine, but he went on to discuss elements in the story that he didn’t understand because he didn’t read the book. In this scenario, I realized that the issue wasn’t my book so much, but the reader. I didn’t get involved in the conversation between him and other readers, but I did read all the comments. Reviewers have the right to let other readers know what they think about a work; they don’t have the right to slaughter it or go on about how they know how to write better. I don’t allow myself to get sucked into negativity like this. People have different needs when they read a book. Sometimes my work meets their need; sometimes it doesn’t. We all have preferences too. Overcoming negative reviews isn’t difficult when you remind yourself that a review is one person’s opinion, and only one. Of course, if you get the same comment from the majority readers/reviewers, then you have some work to do.
James: Where do you get the courage to do so?
Cheryl: It’s not really about courage. It’s about being realistic and understanding readers. I’ve read books I’ve loved and ones I’ve been disappointed in. Realistically, some readers will love my books, some will not. I can only hope that they’ll find at least one that they enjoy and I strive to do my best. But, as the saying goes, you can’t please all of the people all of the time.

James: Can you enlighten us a little more about your books?

Cheryl: I write suspense mainly. I am drawn to mystery, so there’s an element of that in every book I’ve written, except maybe my marketing book. My fiction titles: CHILDREN OF THE FOG, WHALE SONG, THE RIVER, DIVINE INTERVENTION, DIVINE JUSTICE, WHALE SONG: SCHOOL EDITION, LANCELOT’S LADY, SKELETONS IN THE CLOSET & OTHER CREEPY STORIES, REMOTE CONTROL. My nonfiction: HOW I MADE OVER $42,000 IN 1 MONTH SELLING MY KINDLE EBOOKS. Most of my fiction titles are international bestsellers. I’ve explored topics of alcoholism, kidnapping, ghosts, assisted suicide, racism, bullying, native folklore, psychics, serial killers, abortion, conspiracy, time travel, brain stem research, nanotechnology, multiple sclerosis, abuse, murder, greed and more.

James: Is there anything else you would like your readers to pay special attention in regards to your book, which you have not mentioned above?
Cheryl: I like to write stories that have a depth of emotion so I strive to create characters you’ll either love, or love to hate. I want to make you FEEL something when you read my books. The best compliment a reader can give me is that they cried or laughed or fumed at something that happens in one of my books.

James: When do you plan to publish your next book?

Cheryl: I’m hoping my next standalone thriller will be out in 2013, followed by book 3 in the Divine series.

James : How many volume of books for the above series, if applicable?

Cheryl: The Divine series will have 5 books total, all of which have been plotted.

James: Tell us your guided principle that governs your life? How you cultivate these values?
Cheryl: Since early 2003, my motto has been “Dare to Dream...and Dream BIG!” Having a dream is essential, I believe. Without one, we get bogged down by working to live instead of really living. Having a dream is what got me where I am today. And I’m not done yet. I have more dreams, bigger ones. I’ve positioned myself to see these dreams come into reality. I remind myself that anything worth having is worth pursuing. And I remind myself that all great accomplishments started with one thing: a dream. Now I’m dreaming about a Divine TV series—maybe it’ll be called PSI Divine. And Whale Song, the movie. One day...

James: Any other advice which you’d like to share with our readers?
Cheryl: If you’re a lover of books and a reader, I hope that you find something good in every book you read. If you’re a writer, don’t worry if your book gets published. Write for yourself. Write because you have to. And above all, never give up on your dreams. If you don’t accomplish your dreams today, there is always tomorrow. Dare to Dream...and Dream BIG.

WEAKNESS = STRENGTH

"Here is a long story. The morale of the story is that if you

can master ONE skill, it may be all you need to make it.

The story is told of one 10-year-old boy who decided to

study judo despite the fact that he had lost his left arm in a

devastating car accident.

The boy began lessons with an old Japanese judo master.

The boy was doing well, so he couldn't understand why,

after three months of training the master had taught him

only one move.

"Sensei," the boy finally said, "Shouldn't I be learning more

moves?"

"This is the only move you know, but this is the only move

you'll ever need to know," the sensei replied.

Not quite understanding, but believing in his teacher, the

boy kept training.

Several months later, the sensei took the boy to his first

tournament. Surprising himself, the boy easily won his first

two matches. The third match proved to be more difficult,

but after some time, his opponent became impatient and

charged; the boy deftly used his one move to win the match.

Still amazed by his success, the boy was now in the finals.

This time, his opponent was bigger, stronger, and more

experienced. For a while, the boy appeared to be

overmatched. Concerned that the boy might get hurt, the

referee called a time-out. He was about to stop the match

when the sensei intervened.

"No," the sensei insisted, "Let him continue."

Soon after the match resumed, his opponent made a critical

mistake: he dropped his guard. Instantly, the boy used his

move to pin him. The boy had won the match and the

tournament. He was the champion.

On the way home, the boy and sensei reviewed every move

in each and every match. Then the boy summoned the

courage to ask what was really on his mind.

"Sensei, how did I win the tournament with only one move?"

"You won for two reasons," the sensei answered. "First,

you've almost mastered one of the most difficult throws in

all  of judo. And second, the only known defence for that

move is for your opponent to grab your left arm."

The boy's biggest weakness had become his biggest

strength."

NOT ENEMY PER SE

Here, we want you to realise that they shouldn't be treated as your enemies in the first place. This is because they have guts to tell you the truth.

Therefore, it is appropriate to love our enemies instead. By doing so, we are able to strengthen ourselves.

Be mindful that hatred will ultimately destroy us if we allow it to creep into our lives.

We are aware that it is painful to accept the truth. But, we have to say it anyway becuase of our care.

Thanks and look forward to hearing from you,

James Oh

MY SOUL SEARCHING JOURNEY ( REVISED)

Ladies and Gentlemen,
It is a Common Mistake that we spend so much time focusing on building relationships with other people in order to achieve Success, but forgetting to foster the most important relationship of all, which is the relationship with our own self.

At this point you might ask, what is James Oh talking about?
Just like some of you, perhaps, though I'm with myself 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, however, I know very little about my own self until I was transformed by my own soul searching journey couple of years ago.

Prior to this, I must admit that I am just like majority of people who are so consumed and caught up in their own lives that they've forgotten who they truly are. When someone asks me to introduce myself, I normally respond by telling him what I do or where I live. These are certainly important aspects of my life, but they do not truly reflect me.

I often identify myself with only my roles, my word or my career that I often lose track of myself. I do not know whether you have discovered your true self or not? At that time I forgot who I wanted to be, who I truly dreamt of becoming, what I love and value. In effect, I've forgotten my "self."

I have buried my authentic self so as to please other people, or to look good AND to be socially acceptable. To me, the effort to maintain this image not only requires too much energy, yet it is both draining and self-defeating.
It took me lots of courage and time to step out of the scripted life I've been living and to embark on my journey to search for who I am really in the depth of my being. I slowly peel away everything that is not essential and discover my authentic identity. I reclaimed the person the Creator truly wants of me and I find the journey very fulfilling and truly free. With the help from God I am being transformed my new self which is actually my true self rediscovered. Without believing in God, I would not be able to do it by my own ability.

I remember what's most important in my life - I live for a specific purpose and love to live a meaningful life. Remember my hopes and dreams. Discover or rediscover my deepest yearnings. In order to do this, I embarked on a psychological search-and-rescue mission or soul searching journey to comb back through my life and recover my joy, wisdom, passion, enthusiasm, self-confidence, vitality - the threads of my true self that I had lost along the way.

I took my courage, commitment and perseverance to craft the life I love, most of which I have now. I share this with you with the objective that you too will make the call now to be your authentic self. I am now persistently connecting with my authentic self and reclaiming my true joys and passions that made me able to share with you all these while.

Since then I never regret and am able to do and achieve much more with less. That's something I would never have thought off and which contradicted my initial belief. I also realise that I am able to do something what I would never have thought I could do. Amazingly awesome.

Ladies and Gentlemen, what I share now are something real and deeply inside me that would not be revealed unless the person is being transformed. As such, I invite you to take up my challenge to begin your soul searching journey soonest possible.

PASSION IS WITHIN YOU

PASSION IS WITHIN YOU

Treasure yourself and do yourself  justice

Give yourself the best and dearest thing

That is living your life to its fullest

Don’t take anything for granted
With passion, nothing is not within your reach
You can make it anywhere

Don’t let anyone to pull you down
Never give up or compromise with it
Just be strong and you will be happy

Be yourself and trust your instinct
