DUMPLING - KEEPING A LEGEND ALIVE

DUMPLING - KEEPING A LEGEND ALIVE

Some of you may have noticed that dumpling has also evolved. Nowadays, you can see all sorts of ingredients. lt also adds to its already long list. The latest development is Oat Chang. To read more, please click the link below.

However, we are so glad to see this long practice, since 278 BC, has been preserved to commemorate  a Patriotic Poet, named Qu Yuan, (340-278 BC). In his capacity of senior official, he tried to warn the ruler  Chu of the danger from the state of Qin, but lost his official post due to intrigue, and was exiled. In 278 BC, the capital city of Chu, Ying, fell to an invading army from the State of Qin. Overcome with grief, Qu Yuan threw himself into the Miluo River in northeast Hunan Province. Tradition has it that this occurrence  was on the fifth day of the lunar calendar.
But do you wish to know why dumpling and dragon-boat races were held since then. If yes, please continue to read further.
Dumpling, initially began with a pyramid-shaped dumpling made of glutinous rice wrapped in bamboo or reed leaves,  and were supposed to be used to feed the fish, so that they would not eat the poet's dead body. Whereas, the dragon-boat races are meant to frighten fish away from his remains.

His poetric works are filled with devotion to his native State of Chu, and are enlivened with reference to ancient myths.
I am delighted to read our local news recently that more than 70 members from the A Formosa Women's Organisation of Malaysia and the Chan She Shu Yuen Clan Association gathered recently to make dumplings in conjunction with this festival. This gathering was held with the intention to pass down this tradition of making dumpling to the next generation.

If you think that the underlying story should also be told to the future generation to instill the good values of loyalty, then perhaps you should agree with us that above post should be spread far and wide so as not only to preserve this value, but also to interpret broadly its application especially the loyalty to this planet as a whole since the world became border less and we are very much interdependent on each other. It is more important for more people to speak out the truth, so as to preserve the good health of this planet as a whole. This is because we can't afford to have third world war, greed and lies become world phenomenal in today world. Are we heading in the right direction? I ponder.

The former is an active group made of Taiwanese women married to locals or expatriates working here. Before I pen of, I write to wish them every success. It is also interesting to note the Taiwanese vegetarian dumpling, with peanut powder on top and special soya sauce. This is strongly recommended and you must try if you have not done so.

If you like more people to know of its histroy, then please spread this post to others. Thanks and please let us know your preference of dumpling, why and etc you have discovered.

Happiness is like a dumpling rope, tightly bind you;

Blessed like a dumpling incense, surround you forever!
