WIKILEAKS' ASSANGE AWARDED PEACE PRIZE

WIKILEAKS' ASSANGE AWARDED PEACE PRIZE

Hi! everyone,

We write, in response to the recent news that WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange was awarded the Sydney Peace Foundation's top honour for "exceptional courage in pursuit of human rights", as a noble and timely move. This is in line with the notion that the truth should be upheld so as to preserve the world's peace. Do not forget that we are living in the modern technology era where information can be easily and speedily disseminated. As such, high integrity of information should be preserved at any cost; without fear and favour.

Assange, an Australian former computer hacker who is fighting extradition from Britain to Sweden over alleged sex crimes, was highly praised and fairly rewarded with Sydney Peace Prize's Gold Medal. His bold action of disclosing the truth should be an excellent example for us to follow.

In this foundation's 14-year history of annually awarding such prizes, only 3 have been awarded the gold award for courage in pursuit of human rights, these are for Dalai Lama, Nelson Mandela and Japanese Buddhist leader Daisaku Ikeda. Such a great honour is highly recognised and sought after. As such, Assange being awarded for his determination to seek greater transparency and accountability from governments around the world. His huge and challenging task of dismantling "centuries old practices of government secrecy" should be viewed in a positive note in line with human rights fundamental notion.

By championing people right's right to know, both Wikileaks and Julian Assange have put journalism on a new landscape that truly allows free flow of information. With such drastic changes, people have rights to demand for a free flow of information, without interference, so as they can make an well informed decisions. Such fundamental right to access to information should be healthily cultivated so as avoid any manipulation of information, so to speak.

It is timely to extend best practices and more transparency into the journalism industry. This new landscape is timely required to replace the centuries old practices of concealing government secrets, which are occasionally misused by certain irresponsible parties to conceal their ugly agenda, which we have been seen from time to time.

As such, we at this blog urge the readers to click 'Like" to show your support and care for this healthy and best practices being made by all parties. In doing so, we trust that the increasingly awareness of accountability will put an end to the old practices, but we as a whole have the right to demand for a better world to live in.

Thanks for your kind support and participation to ensure a better world to live in. However, we need to constantly get our voices heard and making a just and fair demand until it is fully delivered. Having said that we also need to be reminded that we should not compromise for anything less.

This is an opportunity for those who wanted the truth prevails, to extend us their support to us so as to make it a reality. Together we make it happen.
