TREASURES IN DARKNESS - BOOK REVIEW

This book is a poignant, true and extraordinary insightful experience
of the author's 8 months in prison. Her struggle in the prison was
full of darkness yet she discovered the treasure as the title of the
book suggests. She was imprisoned in a variety of locations, met
people and had experiences with lots of emotions. Through her letters,
personal journals and hindsight, she look back and see things that
happened from a different perspective now. She also shared with us as
how she turned to God and gain her faith. Better yet, she was inspired
to share her journey with others by writing this book. Many of us go
through trials and tribulations and never stop to help others by
sharing our experiences. Trish Jenkins is not that person. She felt
that she was led to write this book. If the reviews she’s received
thus-far are any indication, the world needed it. She has allowed God
to use her as a vessel to reach and impact others which she could never thought possible.

I received a review copy of the book for the purpose of writing a fair
and honest review. I received no other compensation.

Treasures Of Darkness is a book which provides us with more than one
dimension. This is because it can help us to overcome barriers and
obstacles, not only physically, but also mentally and spiritually
precisely as the author has gone through. It serves wide and diverse
needs especially for those who want to gain the highest and broader
perspective on life.

This book, may perhaps make you  gain faith of you own. It may gives
you a good understanding of how you can let God  use you mightily,
even if  you were desperately weak, as how He could mould, sand
polish you before turning you as one of His vessels to reach out and
strengthen people surrounding you, as it begins with a beautiful,
meaningful and powerful verse, Isaiah 45:3 which is the corner stone
of this inspiring book.
.
I think that what I enjoyed most about this book is its richness with
emotions. It reflects the importance of staying positive and enjoying
the waves of the challenges. Reminds us that God will even come near
us despite we could not see our own shadow at the point of total
darkness. That’s what makes this book truly worth reading.

As you read through the book, you’ll be able to visualise how the
entire horribly painful journey the author has to go through, just
like a "Joseph" experience, but the only difference is that she was
not offered a position by Pharaoh. This book is not meant to persuade
or dissuade you – it’s meant to inform, enrich and educate you in
gaining perspectives.

So grab hold of this book without much hesitation. You may probably
read this book in a leisurely weekend and let the author walk you
through her journey that will move your heart and keep you turning the
pages.

The Title of the book is Precise and Concise. It should sell quite a
few copies on the title alone. Important lesson to me and I have to
admit the title is irresistible.

Treasures Of Darkness is definitely a noble goal, because it propels
and prospers you to see things not only from their positive and
appropriate perspective, despite its darkness. You may grab an
encouraging message of how a bruised pilgrim can recover from the
depths to a redeemed and rehabilitated life. I must say that the
reward of its message is far more than your time, energy and money
spent. Marvelous. In short, you will be empowered to walk by faith,
and not by sight. Consistent and persistent application by living in
your life is the surest way to ensure that you shine through your
life. The author, Trish Jenkins , can certainly attest of truth that
God won’t give you more than you can handle. However, like the author,
there are times when you watch that hope slip right through your
fingers while you stand by helplessly. It’s when that hope is gone and
you cry out in desperation that God gives you peace.

This book is also ideal for anyone who feels you had been living life
without much meaning and is looking for inspiration to go off on his
own.

Last, but not least, this is a story of perseverance, love and trust.
The author served 8 months in prison. Isolated from her husband and 3 little daughter, living with all sorts of criminals. She groped in the

dark for reassurance and desperate for an answer, turned the problem over to God. And God intervened.

All I can say is thank you!

Stay tune if you like to know more about author Trish Jenkins.

THE MAGDEBURG WATER BRIDGE

The Magdeburg Water Bridge:

918 m long, 34 m wide and 4.25 m

At first glance, the Water Bridge in Magdeburg, Germany, seems nothing special; just another canal bridge. But look again and it’s a water bridge across water, forming a water intersection that is the biggest water crossing in Europe!

The world’s largest water bridge, with a span of 106 m between its pillars, opened in October 2003, on the back of five years of construction, 24,000 tons of steel, and 68,000 m³ of reinforced concrete. Regaining the construction cost of €500 million probably won’t take long as the bridge shortens travel times for ships considerably and eases traffic on other routes.

Before the opening of the water bridge, ships moving between the Midland Canal and the Elbe-Havel Canal had to make a 12-km detour through the Rothensee lock, along the River Elbe and back up Niegripp lock. Now the bridge connects Hannover and Berlin directly and also Berlin’s inland harbour network with the ports along the Rhine. A double lock was constructed to descend to the Elbe-Havel Canal and a single Rothensee lock was constructed at the other end of the water bridge to descend to the Elbe and the Magdeburg harbour, making it independent of water
levels and therefore navigable even for large ships.

.With the high risk of being blown up, some of the best pilots started tipping the V1's wing, because of damage to
wing tips they later developed a tactic of disrupting the airflow by placing their wing very close to the V1's wing,
causing it to topple. Not every pilot did this. At night this was not possible, the flame from the V1 blinded the pilot
to everything else, though some Mossie pilots flew past closely in front of the V1, again causing it to topple. The
thought of doing this at 450mph, 4,000 feet above the ground, at night, and being blinded gives me the willies.

TME - SHORT SPEECH

Very good evening Fellow TM, Guests, Ladies and Gentlemen.
How are you feeling today? Awesome!

It is my pleasure to be your TME today, and as I have mentioned earlier, my name is James Oh from AFC TM club.

On behalf of Money and You TM club, I would like extend a warm welcome to all the new, young, old members and thank all the guests for taking your precious time to attend this fun, food fulfilling meeting.

HISTORY
Let me give all of you a brief introduction of what is toastmasters international.

Toastmaster was formed in 1924 by a well respected missionary gentleman called DR.RALPH C. SMEDLEY, the founder of TI. From a humble beginning, he started the first Toastmaster meeting at the YMCA in Santa Ana, California United States. The founder, once said, “Education is our business. It has been so from the beginning.” Now, I feel proud to play a part in this huge organization. It does not matter how small is my role, what matters most to me is to keep his legacy alive. Though he had gone, his spirit is still with us.

Toastmasters International has then grown to become a world leader in helping people, like you and me, become more competent and comfortable in front of an audience. The non-profit organization now has nearly 280,000 members in over 13,500 clubs in 116 countries, offering a mutually supportive, and positive learning environment for communication and leadership skills. Where else you can find such a wonderful place – it is second to none, I would say.

Bear in mind that you don't have to be great to start, but you have to start to be great.

Not to perturb your mind, I must let you know that Toastmasters is the best place to learn, to build your confidence and competence. So don't worry if you never speak on stage before. Laugh at yourself first before anyone can.  This is the platform to start your journey to become a good speaker, writer and thinker. 3 in One package. Come and join us to be a dreamer.

Its first magazine was published in December 1932 on quarterly basis and Today it is produced on monthly basis.

How do you feel now?

GUEST POST FROM THE AUTHOR - JADE KERRION

TITLE: The Hero’s Journey through the Double Helix series

Series are popular, and for good reason. Readers can continue their love affairs with their favorite fictional heroes and heroines across multiple books, but how do you, as an author, keep your characters fascinating?

Fascinating characters grow and change. There are many books on character development, but none that specifically address character development across a series. I’d like to share an approach I took with my series, the Double Helix.

One of my favorite books on the craft of writing is The Writer’s Journey by Christophe Vogler. It is a step-by-step guide on how to use myth-inspired storyteller paradigms, specifically “The Hero’s Journey”, to develop both character and plot.  The Hero’s Journey has several stages, and I’ll describe those stages with the help of the first hero in my life, Luke Skywalker:

·         Ordinary World: We first meet Luke Skywalker in the humdrum of his daily life on his uncle’s moisture farm
·         Call to Adventure: Luke yearns to enroll at the Academy, like his friend, Biggs
·         Refusal of the Call: But he refuses the call (or rather, his uncle refuses the call for him)
·         Meeting with the Mentor: While chasing down his errant droid, Luke meets Obi-Wan Kenobi
·         Crossing the First Threshold: The deaths of Luke’s uncle and aunt drives Luke over the threshold, and he takes his first step into a much larger world
·         Test, Allies, Enemies: At a cantina in Mos Eisley, Luke and Obi-Wan meet Han Solo and Chewbacca. While on the Millennium Falcon, Luke begins his training as a Jedi
·         Approach to the Inmost Cave: Is there anything more ominous than getting sucked into the Death Star by a tractor beam?
·         The Ordeal: Luke, Han, and Chewbacca rescue Princess Leia, and in the process, wade through multiple firefights and nearly get compacted with the garbage. Luke witnesses his mentor’s death at the hands of Darth Vader.
·         Reward: The princess is saved
·         The Road Back: Luke is now where he had wanted to be. The Rebel Alliance is his new Ordinary World.
·         The Resurrection: While taking a suicidal run at the Death Star, Luke hears Obi-Wan’s voice. He trusts the Force, turns off his targeting computer, and fires missiles into the Death Star’s core
·         Return with the Elixir: Luke returns triumphant, and his victory promises a (brief) reprieve for the Rebel Alliance

The power of a paradigm is that it is recognizable and it resonates with people; hence, you’ll recognize elements of “The Hero’s Journey” in many books and movies. The question remains, how do you apply “The Hero’s Journey” to a series? The answer, which is easier said than done, is to apply “The Hero’s Journey” within each book and across the entire series.

The following sections will contain some spoilers for my novels, and I apologize in advance, but it’s hard to make the point without giving a few things away.

In Perfection Unleashed, Danyael Sabre is rudely yanked out of his ordinary world when he discovers that his genetic material was used as the physical template for Galahad, the perfect human being. He refuses the call; in fact, his first instinct is to get Galahad out of the country, but his friend (and mentor), Lucien Winter, persuades him to investigate his connection with Galahad. Danyael meets many allies and enemies, and in the process, approaches the inmost cave, uncovering the identity of the family that abandoned him many years prior. He is almost killed (an ordeal, certainly) but is saved (a resurrection), and in turn, he saves Galahad, thereby bestowing the elixir of perfection on the world.

Perfect Betrayal and Perfect Weapon, the second and third books of the Double Helix series, have “Hero’s Journey” arcs for Danyael within each book, but the structure of the arc across the series is more relevant to this discussion. To view the series arc, we first need to take a closer look at Danyael Sabre.

Danyael is an alpha empath. He can control emotions, and he can heal through absorption of injury. However, all powers have a dark side. He can hurt others by transferring physical pain, and the miserable memories of his childhood, amplified by his empathic powers, can drive others to suicide. Put simply, Danyael has the power to heal or kill with a touch.

In Perfection Unleashed, Danyael’s chosen life as a doctor in his ordinary world is disrupted by the discovery of his connection with Galahad. Despite the shocking revelations and traumatic situations he endures, Danyael refuses the call to fully embrace his empathic powers. He will not hurt others under any circumstance, whatever the provocation.

In Perfect Betrayal, Danyael crosses the threshold when he unleashes his empathic powers and drives his attackers to suicide in order to save his best friend and the woman he loves. Allies and enemies take on different faces as they maneuver to manipulate Danyael for their ends. At the end of the novel, Danyael approaches the inmost cave. He can choose himself and his freedom by leaving Galahad to die. Is Danyael a healer or a killer? What choice will he make in the silence of his soul?

Through many ordeals in Perfect Weapon, Danyael finally learns to accept his empathic powers, his ability to heal and kill, and to utilize either or both as the situation calls for it. When terrorists attack Washington D.C., Danyael leads a super soldier army to defend the city. As a reward, he is given a chance to begin the road back (which will start in book 4…)

Each book had a “Hero’s Journey.” Danyael got from beginning to end, and something in him changed along the way. But when you take a step back and look at the overall series, you’ll see that each book represents smaller portions of the “Hero’s Journey,” and there is a larger “Hero’s Journey” that connects the series. The larger journey is also the more subtle. Most readers may miss the forest for the trees, but it is important for authors, to map out that greater journey to ensure that our characters and the novels within the series grow to their full potential.

I invite you to check out Danyael’s journey in the Double Helix series, and would welcome a discussion of the Hero’s Journey taken by other famous characters. (Anyone up for a discussion of Harry Potter?)

Author Bio:

Jade Kerrion unites cutting-edge science and bioethics with fast-paced action in her award-winning Double Helix series. Drawing rave reviews for its originality and vision, and described as “a breakout piece of science fiction,” Perfection Unleashed, and its sequels, Perfect Betrayal and Perfect Weapon, are available in print and e-book through Amazon and other major retailers.

About The Double Helix series:

His genetic code sourced from the best that humanity offers, Galahad embodies the pinnacle of perfection. When Zara Itani, a mercenary whose abrasive arrogance exceeds her beauty, frees him from his laboratory prison, she offers him the chance to claim everything that had ever been denied him, beginning with his humanity.

Perfection cannot be unleashed without repercussions, and Galahad’s freedom shatters Danyael Sabre’s life.

An alpha empath, Danyael is rare and coveted, even among the alpha mutants who dominate the Genetic Revolution. He wields the power to heal or kill with a touch, but craves only privacy and solitude—both impossible dreams for the man who was used as Galahad’s physical template.

Galahad and Danyael, two men, one face. One man seeks to embrace destiny, and the other to escape it.

The award-winning Double Helix series, consisting of Perfection Unleashed, Perfect Betrayal, and Perfect Weapon, will challenge your notions of perfection and humanity, and lead you in a celebration of courage and compassion. Science fiction, urban fantasy, and action-adventure readers will enjoy this thrilling roller-coaster ride as it twists and turns through a world transformed by the Genetic Revolution.

THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN COMPLETE AND FINISHED

No dictionary has been able to adequately explain the difference between COMPLETE and FINISHED. However, in a recent linguistic conference held in London,  England, and attended by some of the best linguists in the world: Samsundar Balgobind, a Guyanese, was the clear winner.

His final challenge was this: Some say there is no difference between COMPLETE and FINISHED. Please explain the difference between COMPLETE and FINISHED in a way that is easy to understand.

Here is his astute answer: "When you marry the right woman, you are COMPLETE. But, when you marry the wrong woman, you are FINISHED. And when the right one catches you with the wrong one, you are COMPLETELY FINISHED!"

His answer was received with a standing ovation lasting over 5 minutes and it entitled him to receive an invitation to dine with Queen, who decided to call him after the contest. He won a trip to travel around the world in style and a case of 25 year old Eldorado rum for his answer.
