97 years doctor -Shigeaki Hinohara

Dear our valued visitors,

At the age of 97 years and 4 months, Shigeaki Hinohara is one of the
world's longest-serving physicians and educators. Hinohara's magic touch is
legendary: Since 1941 he has been healing patients at St. Luke's
International Hospital in Tokyo and teaching at St. Luke's College of
Nursing. After World War II, he envisioned a world-class hospital and
college springing from the ruins of Tokyo; thanks to his pioneering spirit
and business savvy, the doctor turned these institutions into the nation's
top medical facility and nursing school. Today he serves as chairman of the
board of trustees at both organizations. Always willing to try new things,
he has published around 150 books since his 75th birthday, including one
"Living Long, Living Good" that has sold more than 1.2 million copies. As
the founder of the New Elderly Movement, Hinohara encourages others to live
a long and happy life, a quest in which no role model is better than the
doctor himself.

Doctor Shigeaki Hinohara JUDIT KAWAGUCHIPHOTO

Energy comes from feeling good, not from eating well or sleeping a lot. We
all remember how as children, when we were having fun, we often forgot to
eat or sleep. I believe that we can keep that attitude as adults, too. It's
best not to tire the body with too many rules such as lunchtime and
bedtime.

All people who live long regardless of nationality, race or gender
share one thing in common:None are overweight... For breakfast I drink
coffee, a glass of milk and some orange juice with a tablespoon of olive
oil in it. Olive oil is great for the arteries and keeps my skin healthy.
Lunch is milk and a few cookies, or nothing when I am too busy to eat. I
never get hungry because I focus on my work.. Dinner is veggies, a bit of
fish and rice, and, twice a week, 100 grams of lean meat..

Always plan ahead. My schedule book is already full until 2014, with
lectures and my usual hospital work. In 2016 I'll have some fun, though: I
plan to attend the Tokyo Olympics!

There is no need to ever retire, but if one must, it should be a lot later
than 65. The current retirement age was set at 65 half a century ago, when
the average life-expectancy in Japan was 68 years and only 125 Japanese
were over 100 years old. Today, Japanese women live to be around 86 and men
80, and we have 36,000 centenarians in our country. In 20 years we will
have about 50,000 people over the age of 100...

Share what you know. I give 150 lectures a year, some for 100
elementary-school children, others for 4,500 business people. I usually
speak for 60 to 90 minutes, standing, to stay strong.

When a doctor recommends you take a test or have some surgery, ask whether
the doctor would suggest that his or her spouse or children go through such
a procedure. Contrary to popular belief, doctors can't cure everyone. So
why cause unnecessary pain with surgery I think music and animal therapy
can help more than most doctors imagine.

To stay healthy, always take the stairs and carry your own stuff. I take
two stairs at a time, to get my muscles moving.

My inspiration is Robert Browning's poem "Abt Vogler." My father used to
read it to me. It encourages us to make big art, not small scribbles. It
says to try to draw a circle so huge that there is no way we can finish it
while we are alive. All we see is an arch; the rest is beyond our vision
but it is there in the distance.

Pain is mysterious, and having fun is the best way to forget it. If a child
has a toothache, and you start playing a game together, he or she
immediately forgets the pain. Hospitals must cater to the basic need of
patients: We all want to have fun. At St. Luke's we have music and animal
therapies, and art classes.

Don't be crazy about amassing material things. Remember: You don't know
when your number is up, and you can't take it with you to the next place.
Hospitals must be designed and prepared for major disasters, and they must
accept every patient who appears at their doors. We designed St.... Luke's
so we can operate anywhere: in the basement, in the corridors, in the
chapel. Most people thought I was crazy to prepare for a catastrophe, but
on March 20, 1995, I was unfortunately proven right when members of the Aum
Shinrikyu religious cult launched a terrorist attack in the Tokyo subway.
We accepted 740 victims and in two hours figured out that it was sarin gas
that had hit them. Sadly we lost one person, but we saved 739 lives.
Science alone can't cure or help people. Science lumps us all together, but
illness is individual. Each person is unique, and diseases are connected to
their hearts. To know the illness and help people, we need liberal and
visual arts, not just medical ones.

Life is filled with incidents. On March 31, 1970, when I was 59 years old,
I boarded the Yodogo, a flight from Tokyo to Fukuoka. It was a beautiful
sunny morning, and as Mount Fuji came into sight, the plane was hijacked by
the Japanese Communist League-Red Army Faction. I spent the next four days
handcuffed to my seat in 40-degree heat. As a doctor, I looked at it all as
an experiment and was amazed at how the body slowed down in a crisis.
Find a role model and aim to achieve even more than they could ever do. My
father went to the United States in 1900 to study at Duke University in
North Carolina. He was a pioneer and one of my heroes. Later I found a few
more life guides, and when I am stuck, I ask myself how they would deal
with the problem.

It's wonderful to live long. Until one is 60 years old, it is easy to work
for one's family and to achieve one's goals. But in our later years, we
should strive to contribute to society Since the age of 65, I have worked
as a volunteer. I still put in 18 hours seven days a week and love every
minute of it.

Trust this can be a good model for you,

THE SMELL OF RAIN

Dear valued visitors,

The smell of rain
At the end of this story, it gives you two options. I think you will figure out what option I chose.

A cold March wind danced around the dead of night in Dallas as the doctor walked into the small hospital room of Diana Blessing. She was still groggy from surgery.

Her husband, David, held her hand as they braced themselves for the latest news.
That afternoon of March 10, 1991 , complications had forced Diana, only 24-weeks pregnant, to undergo an emergency Cesarean to deliver couple's new daughter, Dana Lu Blessing.

At 12 inches long and weighing only one pound nine ounces, they already knew she was perilously premature

Still, the doctor's soft words dropped like bombs.

"I don't think she's going to make it," he said, as kindly as he could.

"There's only a 10-percent chance she will live through the night, and even then, if by some slim chance she does make it, her future could be a very cruel one"

Numb with disbelief, David and Diana listened as the doctor described the devastating problems Dana would likely face if she survived.

h=320 DATASIZE="18204" ID="7" SRC="aoladp://MA24827696-0011/image00888.jpg">
She would never walk, she would never talk, she would probably be blind, and she would certainly be prone to other catastrophic conditions from cerebral palsy to complete mental retardation, and on and on.

"No! No!" was all Diana could say.

She and David, with their 5-year-old son Dustin, had long dreamed of the day they would have a daughter to become a family of four.

Now, within a matter of hours, that dream was slipping away

But as those first days passed, a new agony set in for David and Diana Because Dana's underdeveloped nervous system was essentially 'raw', the lightest kiss or caress only intensified her discomfort, so they couldn't even cradle their tiny baby girl against their chests to offer the strength of their love.

All they could do, as Dana struggled alone beneath the ultraviolet light in the tangle of tubes and wires, was to pray that God would stay close to their precious little girl.

There was never a moment when Dana suddenly grew stronger.

But as the weeks went by, she did slowly gain an ounce of weight here and an ounce of strength there.

At last, when Dana turned two months old.. Her parents were able to hold her in their arms for the very first time.

And two months later, though doctors continued to gently but grimly warn that her chances of surviving, much less living any kind of normal life, were next to zero, Dana went home from the hospital, just as her mother had predicted.

Five years later, when Dana was a petite but feisty young girl with glittering gray eyes and an unquenchable zest for life.

"16" SRC="aoladp://MA24827696-0020/image0181818.jpg">
She showed no signs whatsoever of any mental or physical impairment. Simply, she was everything a little girl can be and more. But that happy ending is far from the end of her story.

One blistering afternoon in the summer of 1996 near her home in Irving , Texas , Dana was sitting in her mother's lap in the bleachers of a local ball park where her brother Dustin's baseball team was practicing.

As always, Dana was chattering nonstop with her mother and several other adults sitting nearby when she suddenly fell silent. Hugging her arms across her chest, little Dana asked, "Do you smell that?"

Smelling the air and detecting the approach of a thunderstorm, Diana replied, "Yes, it smells like rain."

Dana closed her eyes and again asked, "Do you smell that?"

Once again, her mother replied, "Yes, I think we're about to get wet. It smells like rain."

Still caught in the moment, Dana shook her head, patted her thin shoulders with her small hands and loudly announced,
"No, it smells like Him.

It smells like God when you lay your head on His chest."

Tears blurred Diana's eyes as Dana happily hopped down to play with the other children.

Before the rains came, her daughter's words confirmed what Diana and all the members of the extended Blessing family had known, at least in their hearts, all along.

During those long days and nights of her first two months of her life, when her nerves were too sensitive for them to touch her, God was holding Dana on His chest and it is His loving scent that she remembers so well.

You now have 1 of 2 choices. You can either pass this on and let other people catch the chills like you did or you can delete this and act like it didn't touch your heart like it did mine.

IT'S YOUR CALL!

"I can do all things in Him who strengthens me"

This morning when the Lord opened a window to Heaven, He saw me, and He asked: "My child, what is your greatest wish for today?" I responded:
"Lord please, take care of the person who is reading this message, their family and their special friends. They deserve it and I love them very much" The love of God is like the ocean, you can see its beginning, but not its end.

A Very touching real story

Dear our valued visitors,

The girl in the picture is Katie Kirkpatrick, she is 21 . Next to her, her fiancé, Nick, 23.

The picture was taken shortly before their wedding ceremony, held on January 11, 2005 in the US .

Katie has terminal cancer and spend hours a day receiving medication.
In the picture, Nick is waiting for her on one of the many sessions of quimo to end.

In spite of all the pain, organ failures, and morphine shots, Katie is going along with her wedding and took care of every detail. The dress had to be adjusted a few times due to her constant weight loss

An unusual accessory at the party was the oxygen tube that ketie used throughout the ceremony and reception as well.

The other couple in the picture are Nick's parents. Excited to see her son marrying his high school sweetheart.

Katie, in her wheelchair with the oxygen tube , listening a song from her husband and friends

At the reception, katie had to take a few rests. The pain do not let her to be standing up for long periods

Katie died five days after her wedding day. Watching a women so ill and weak getting married and with a smile on her face makes us think..... Happiness is reachable, no matter how long it last. We should stop making our lives complicated.

Life is short
Break the rules
forgive quickly
kiss passionately, love truly
laugh constantly
And never stop smiling
no matter how strange life is
Life is not always the party we expected to be
but as long as we are here, we should smile and be grateful.

Trust you will be touched as well.

Love,

James

Let your mind be the captain of your body and soul

Dear our valued visitors,

ALWAYS IN CONTROL YOUR OWN MIND, AND YOU MAY NEVER BE CONTROLLED BY THE MIND OF ANOTHER. IT IS FULL OF LIES IN TODAY WORLD. BUT IT IS ALSO VERY COSTLY FOR NOT TO TRUST ANYONE. DO IT WITH YOUR MIND, SO THAT YOU NEVER BE FOOLED BY THOSE WHO TRY TO MANIPULATE YOU RATHER THAN SAVING YOU. NEVER JUDGE ON APPEARANCE, BUT ON RIGHTEOUSNESS.

The mind is the most powerful weapon known to man. Therefore, it simply cannot be controlled or contained by an outside force, however formidable that force may at first appear.

Throughout history, tyrants have tried to control those who opposed them, but eventually these rulers discovered the power of the imagination was far greater than the threat of the sword. As Victor Hugo said, "An invasion of armies can be resisted, but not an idea whose time has come."

Be cautious and never let your mind be manipulated by those who are power crazy and care for their individual selfish agenda. Never be trapped by their nice word especially when they in need of your support. Never follow your emotion, but act wisely.

China's SAIC to build Hybrid with US parts

Dear valued visitors,

We are pleased to bring to your attention of the good news, reported on Wall Streets below, that the China's biggest state-owned auto makers is collaborate with the US counterpart to produce hybrid car. Such collaboration and initiative should be welcome as this planned car represents one of the most serious efforts by Chinese to address the global warming issue. It is a good start and we wish both countries can work together as united force to address this issue seriously and urgently.

Trust you see some light the way we see,

James Oh

By NORIHIKO SHIROUZU

BEIJING -- SAIC Motor Corp., one of China's biggest state-owned auto makers, is turning to American technology suppliers to engineer a gasoline-electric hybrid car that could go on sale in China as soon as next year.

SAIC is planning to use technology from A123 Systems, a closely held battery maker based in Watertown, Mass., and auto parts maker Delphi Corp., based in Troy, Mich., according to people familiar with the matter.

The new SAIC hybrid vehicle is to be a "mild hybrid" car, much like Honda Motor Co.'s Civic hybrid, with an electric motor to mostly assist the car's gasoline engine rather than propel it.

The planned car represents one of the most serious efforts by Chinese auto makers to dabble in alternative-fuel propulsion technology. There are only a few gasoline-electric hybrids presently available in the Chinese auto market, including Honda's Civic and the Toyota Prius.

SAIC's foray into the hybrid market comes as China encourages its auto industry to shift to electric vehicles and other new-energy cars. China's government believes auto makers could take advantage of the relatively low barriers to entry for electric vehicles -- they are much simpler mechanically than gasoline-fueled cars -- to narrow the gap with bigger foreign rivals and guarantee the Chinese industry's steady long-term growth.

SAIC couldn't be reached for comment late Wednesday. A Delphi spokeswoman didn't immediately respond to an inquiry. An executive at A123 declined to comment.

Immature battery technology has hindered the affordability and practicality of hybrids and other electrified vehicles. Conventional cobalt-based batteries, used primarily in cellphones and laptops, have shown a tendency to overheat, and have caught fire and even exploded in rare cases.

The new SAIC hybrid will be powered by advanced iron-phosphate-based lithium-ion batteries, which have a strong safety record. Iron-phosphate batteries such as those developed by A123 might overheat to the point where they might start smoking, but, proponents of the technology say, they wouldn't catch fire or explode because of the technology's inherent chemical stability.

The SAIC hybrid will also feature Delphi's mild-hybrid vehicle technology, including a hybrid control unit and a unit that converts high-voltage battery power to lower voltages to power an electric motor, said people familiar with the matter.

SAIC, which operates joint car-assembly companies with General Motors Corp. and Volkswagen AG, is responsible for integrating various hybrid systems supplied by Delphi and A123, these individuals said.

Give the Tiger Park proposal in Penang support

Dear valued visitors,

We, at this blog, are very pleased to express our sincere supports to the above proposal in Penang. We, believe that Penang needs to take more aggressive measures and initiatives to restore back its formerly glory as the Oriental Garden in the early 70an.

We believe that such project will help to attract more tourists to this island and spring off its related service sectors. Do not forget that this small island is still capable of providing everything to its tourists like in the past. Its variety and delicious hawkers food, rich historical values back in the late 17th century when Francis Light found this island. Unique and variety mode transport such as trishaw, ferry , cable car to the Penang hill, dragon boat race and many other festivals will offer good values and interests to its tourists.

Apart from this, there are several unique historical and heritage buildings such as E & O hotel, snake temple, oldest Churches, oldest Mosques, Mansions, Khoo Kongsi Association etc...

Its friendly and good speaking Multi-international Languages; dialets and multi cultural and religious backgrounds of its local people and hospitality will also attract more people to this wonderful place, if the promotion is right and appropriate.

Its former glory of being one of the earliest successful financial service center in this region, having beautiful long white beaches, free duty port zones, and other popular tourist areas such as Botanical Garden, bird park, butterfly park, youth park, Penang hill, shopping paradise at Penang Road also need to restore and revive them further.

Of course, it is not easy, but possible so long as we all put together our bold efforts and plan in one voice and heart. It is not surprised that we are not only be capable of restoring its former glory, but put it into a much better ranking than before so long we know how to take profit from our past mistakes.

Let create a better prospects for us and next generations to come.

Wish you a great success,

James

Let us bring this tiny island into the spotlight of the world map. Malaysia boleh!!

It’s just a mix of water, brown sugar and yeast:

1. Cut a plastic bottle in half, keep both parts, for instance Coca-Cola/Pepsi.

2. Take the lower portion of the bottle. Dissolve the brown sugar in hot water. Let it cool down to ~70 degF.

3. Add the yeast. Carbon dioxide will form (This will attract the mosquitos)

4. Cover the bottle with a dark wrap and place the top portion upside down like a funnel. Place it in a corner in your house.

5. In 2 weeks you will be surprised by the number of mosquitos killed. Check this this link and this other link.

Let us unit together and fight against them so as to save lives of our loved ones,

A fiery sermon- Beautiful sermon without words.......

Dear valued visitors,

A member of a church, who previously had been attending services regularly, stopped going. After a few weeks, the preacher decided to visit him.

It was a chilly evening. The preacher found the man at home alone, sitting before a blazing fire. Guessing the reason for his preachers visit, the man welcomed him, led him to a comfortable chair near the fireplace and waited.

The preacher made himself at home but said nothing. In the grave silence, he contemplated the dance of the flames around the burning logs. After some minutes, the preacher took the fire tongs, carefully picked up a brightly burning ember and placed it to one side of the hearth all alone then he sat back in his chair, still silent.

The host watched all this in quiet contemplation. As the one lone ember's flame flickered and diminished, there was a momentary glow and then its fire was no more. Soon it was cold and dead.

Not a word had been spoken since the initial greeting. The preacher glanced at his watch and realized it was time to leave. He slowly stood up, picked up the cold, dead ember and placed it back in the middle of the fire. Immediately it began to glow, once more with the light and warmth of the burning coals around it.

As the preacher reached the door to leave, his host said with a tear running down his cheek, 'Thank you so much for your visit and especially for the fiery sermon. I shall be back in church next Sunday.'

We live in a world today, which tries to say too much with too little. Consequently, few listen. Sometimes the best sermons are the ones left unspoken.

Give it a serious thought and let Lord reveal it to you,

The government may argue it is banning party papers over concern for citizens’ welfare, but this is unfair political warfare in disguise. Malaysia’s citizens deserve better from their elected leaders.

Elaine Pearson, deputy Asia director at Human Rights Watch

(New York) - Malaysia's Home Ministry should immediately rescind its order suspending publication of two opposition party newspapers, Human Rights Watch said today. Human Rights Watch also called for repeal of the 1984 Printing Presses and Publications Act.

On March 23, the Home Ministry notified the opposition party Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) and its coalition partner Parti Islam Se-Malaysia (PAS) that they were prohibited from publishing their respective party newspapers, Suara Keadilan and Harakah, for three months. With three key by-elections scheduled for April 7, 2009, the ban will harm the parties' ability to inform and rally voters. Both parties plan to go ahead with distribution of this week's publications, which are already in print.

No official reason accompanied the ministry's action, although in later reports Home Ministry officials said the papers were banned for publishing reports that contravened the ministry's guidelines and permit conditions. Home Minister Datuk Sri Syed Hamid Albar said that the newspapers "were still publishing untrue stories after they were given warnings." He also said that the stories aimed to "instill hatred for the government and leaders."

"The government may argue it is banning party papers over concern for citizens' welfare, but this is unfair political warfare in disguise," said Elaine Pearson, deputy Asia director at Human Rights Watch. "Malaysia's citizens deserve better from their elected leaders."

Despite constitutional guarantees to freedom of expression, the draconian Printing Presses and Publications Act effectively silences criticism of the Malaysian government by requiring newspapers to renew publishing licenses annually. According to the law, the minister's discretion to grant, revoke, or suspend licenses is "absolute" and not subject to judicial review.

Suara Keadilan has faced government interference since it received its first printing permit less than a year ago, eight years after its initial application. In September 2008, the Home Ministry instructed PKR to "show cause" why its publication license should not be suspended after it reported incorrectly that Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Musa Hassan became paralyzed after heart surgery. In February 2009, the government attempted to limit circulation by confiscating thousands of copies from distributors and warning them against selling the newspaper. It is unclear if Suara Keadilan circulation is limited to PKR party members.

On February 11, the authorities seized copies of Harakah, in print for 22 years without suspension. On February 26, PAS received a letter from the Home Ministry that it was in violation of its permit in part because Harakah reported on non-party matters.

A third member of the opposition coalition, Parti Tindakan Demokratik (DAP), has been trying unsuccessfully to renew the license of Rocket, the party paper, since December 2008.

"Much of Malaysia's mainstream media, with ties to Malaysia's ruling coalition, rarely run into trouble," said Pearson. "But online journals and other ‘new media' that are critical of the government are easy targets for censorship."

Human Rights Watch also expressed concern with the refusal of the United Malays National Organisation (UMNO), the dominant party in the ruling coalition, to grant six members of the "new media," including Malaysiakini and the Malaysian Insider, access to its annual meeting on March 24-28, 2009. An UMNO official cited their "unfriendly" reporting as the reason. The meeting is of particular importance this year as UMNO will be choosing a new leader. With the current leader, Prime Minister Abdullah Badawi, stepping down, the new UMNO leader will fulfill his unexpired term, which has another four years to run.

On September 12, 2008, in still another attack on a free press, police arrested Raja Petra Kamarudin, founder and editor of Malaysia Today, under the Internal Security Act, which allows for indefinite preventive detention without charge or trial (http://www.hrw.org/en/news/2008/09/12/malaysia-free-journalists-and-parliamentarian). He was accused of demeaning Islam. Although released on technical grounds, the government is appealing the decision. In a separate case, Raja Petra is on trial for sedition on the politically motivated charge of defaming a government leader.

"The Malaysian government needs to allow all voices to be heard," said Pearson. "Freedom of speech is a touchstone of a true democracy."

Your views on the above is greatly appreciated.

Beware when in Thailand!!!!!

Dear valued visitors,

It's better to be safe than sorry.

Hard to believe!

I heard that someone cousin was detained in Bangkok for stealing a box of cigarettes in a duty-free shop in Bangkok International Airport.

He had paid for chocolates and a carton of cigarettes.

The cashier put a packet of cigarette into his bag and he thought it was a free pack.

He was arrested for shop-lifting and the Thai Police extortion price was RM30,000 for his release.

He spent two nights in jail and paid RM50 for an air-cond cell, 200-300 baht for each visitor, and RM11,000 for his final release.

The Police shared the money in front of his eyes.

On top of that, he was charged in court and fined RM2,000 by the magistrate and handcuffed and escorted to his plane.

His passport was stamped "Thief". While there, his relatives requested help from the Malaysian Embassy and was told that they are helpless, as Malaysians are victimized similarly daily and letters and phone-calls to the Thai Authorities are ignored.

He shared a cell with a Singaporean the 1st night who paid RM60,000 for his release.

The 2nd night was an Indian national who paid USD70,000.

Mind you this is not in a shag downtown Bangkok but in a duty free shop in Bangkok's International Airport.

BE WARNED.

"THE LITTLE OLD LADY IN COURT"

Dear valued visitors,

Defense Attorney: Will you please state your age?
Little Old Lady: I am 86 years old.

Defense Attorney: Will you tell us, in your own words, what happened the night of April 1st?

Little Old Lady: There I was, sitting there in my swing on my front porch on a warm spring evening, when a young man comes creeping up on the porch and sat down beside me.

Defense Attorney: Did you know him?
Little Old Lady: No, but he sure was friendly.

Defense Attorney: What happened after he sat down?
Little Old Lady: He started to rub my thigh.

Defense Attorney: Did you stop him?
Little Old Lady: No, I didn't stop him.

Defense Attorney: Why not?
Little Old Lady: It felt good. Nobody had done that since my Abner died some 30 years ago.

Defense Attorney: What happened next?
Little Old Lady: He began to rub my breasts.

Defense Attorney: Did you stop him then?
Little Old Lady: No, I did not stop him.

Defense Attorney: Why not?
Little Old Lady: His rubbing made me feel all alive and excited. I haven't felt that good in years!

Defense Attorney: What happened next?
Little Old Lady: Well, by then, I was feeling so "spicy" that I just laid down and told him "Take me, young man. Take me!"

Defense Attorney: And did he take you?
Little Old Lady: Hell, no! He just yelled, "April Fool!" And that's when I shot him, the little bastard.

Trust you have a good laugh.
